Dialog box asking for database administrator password

Some of the machine may encounter issue with the following message prompted during launching of Sage 50, after installation.

This issue is due to the system not able to connect into SQL server which typically causes by four reasons below.

  1. The SQL server is not installed.
  2. The SQL server is installed but its service is not configured.
  3. The SQL server service is not start at the moment.
  4. The SQL server "root" password has been change by database administrator.

Sage 50 installer is embedded with SQL server installation script for automated installation for both application and databases. Some machine does not able to execute the embedded installation script due to system security concern. This situation may be examined from the non-existence of the SQL server program directory in the machine after installation of Sage 50 system. In this issue, manual installation of the SQL server is required.

If the SQL server directory is present, then configuration of the SQL server service must be done and made started before it can be made utilized. For configuring the MYSQL server, it is always recommended to use the MySQL Server Instance Configuration Wizard that made available after the SQL server installation.

There is a special situation where SQL server was present and utilized by other system. The SQL server may already configure where its administrator password was set. In this situation, the administrator password must be entered once for the Sage 50 to made auto configuration to initialize with the SQL server.


To configure the MySQL server manually, please follow the steps below:

  1. Locate the  "MySQL Instant Configuration Wizard" from windows program menu.
  2. Follow the wizard instruction carefully, leave all setting by its default state is recommended for normal users.

If the MySQL instance had been configured or utilized before, re-configuration of the MySQL server may cause improper handling of data directory. In this situation, it is strongly recommended to obtain assistance from Sage UBS authorised support personnel.
