Scenario:

Workstation failed to connect to server with error message "No more connections can be made this remote computer at this time because there are already as many connections as the computer can accept".

Example,

You may use UBS LAN version in a network environment, where both the dataand the Smartlock are installed on a server. UBS is shared out to several other PCs. Sometimes, one or more workstations failed to connect to the server, and the error messages appeared:

Solution:

You are using Windows XP as a server for UBS. This is because Windows XP has limitation on how many connections it can accept at one time. To overcome this, upgrade to a Window Server 2000 or Window Server 2003.

  • Window XP Professional – 10 connections only.
  • Window XP Home – 5 connections only.

Most of the times you can assume 1 PC = 1 connection. So XP Pro can connect to 10 PCs at one time, XP Home can only connect to 5 PCs.
But sometimes 1 PC can take 2 connections, so it will lower the number of PCs the server can connect. To check the connections made on a PC:

  1. [Start > Run], type “cmd” and press Enter.
  2. Type “net session” and press Enter.

     C:\\ Documents and Settings\\Administrator>net session.

     \\\\LW                 UBS                    Windows 2000 2195                 12                 00:15:39

     The command completed successfully.
